Upcoming Update: Experience the ‘Sinking Sensation’ on Your Smartphone

Dental Edutec is committed to creating tools that allow you to train anytime, anywhere. Our focus has been on developing training apps that work on the smartphones or tablets everyone has, without the need for expensive equipment like VR headsets. One such app, Dental MirrorMaster, which trains indirect vision skills, has already received positive feedback from users, and we are currently conducting a study with Pusan National University’s School of Dentistry to verify its effectiveness.

Now, let’s talk about our endodontic training app, Dental EndoMaster. The initial goal of Dental EndoMaster was to accurately recreate the 3D structure of real teeth, helping users gain a deeper understanding of tooth anatomy.

The app allows users to see projections of canal orifices on the occlusal surface and engage in logical exercises to locate them. However, this approach was quite different from what students and professionals were familiar with from their clinical or classroom experiences, making the learning curve steeper than expected.

So, we decided to take on a new challenge.

We are updating the app to simulate the tactile experience of shaping an access cavity while also guiding users through logical exercises. Our first major update focuses on replicating the 'Sinking Sensation' felt when a bur penetrates the pulp chamber during a penetration cut.

Unlike high-end haptic devices, our smartphone app relies on the phone's sound, vibration, and precise control of the bur’s movement speed to simulate this experience. We’re now in the final stages of development.

Additionally, we are refining the canal orifice prediction feature, allowing users to more intuitively locate the entry point by analyzing the holes created during the penetration cut.

In each stage, the app’s secondary view visualizes what’s happening inside the tooth during endodontic procedures, offering a clearer understanding of the entire process. This feature helps users anticipate and handle various challenges during actual treatments.

These updates, including the enhanced simulation of the 'Sinking Sensation' and more intuitive canal orifice prediction, are coming very soon. Stay tuned—there’s a lot to look forward to with Dental EndoMaster. We’re excited to bring you a more immersive and effective training experience that will help take your endodontic skills to the next level!
